ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
I have been a professional artist since graduating from the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Canada, in 1987. Since then, I have lived twenty years in the Chicago area, two years in Munich, Germany, and two years in Guangzhou, China. I now live with my wonderful wife, Lee, and beautiful son, Kobi, in Waukegan, Illinois. We have an in-house gallery where my art can be seen (by appointment only).

Fine Art

Over the last 25 years, I have explored and painted the people and landscapes of diverse cultures, such as Italy, Turkey, Viet Nam, France, Russia, Ireland, England, Spain, The Czech Republic, Slovenia, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, India, Nepal, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Japan, Cambodia, etc. Encountering exotic locales and diverse cultures through painting has allowed me to observe what is shared and common to much of humanity. Despite our cultural and political differences and no matter where we call home and what language we speak, we are united by our partnership with nature. These paintings tell the story of my travels and are a celebration of this earth and the places, events, and people that particularly inspire me.

My trips are a pilgrimage of sorts, in the spirit of bygone days when painters traveled near and far in search of the extraordinary. I travel light, necessity dictating what goes into my one backpack. I use a compact box that protects paper and paints from the elements, which also converts effortlessly into an easel. Traveling this way allows me to paint plein air (working on location in outdoor light) a range of vistas that capture my imagination, no matter what challenges the terrain presents.

Commissioned Portraits

I have been painting detailed portraits of homes and landmarks in watercolor for more than 25 years; my work is well represented from the East to West Coast and overseas. I employ technical skill and artistry to create portraits that are not only correctly proportioned and finely detailed, but which convey the unique character of each home or business. I try to evoke the emotion one might feel about their home, rather than merely representing the home in an architectural illustration.

My fine art can be found in numerous corporate and private collections and I have painted over 1500 commissioned paintings.

Family

I am from a very close and artistic family of four children. I couldn’t have asked for a more happy childhood, blessed by two parents (who emigrated from England to America in 1954) with an absolute love for life and their kids.

My father, while also a fantastic dad, has achieved fame as an illustrator/artist. He has won a gold medal from the Society of illustrators, graced the pages of most major American magazines, and painted 21 US postage stamps. His work is collected widely for his mostly automotive-inspired art. My younger brother, Peter Dallison, is also a very accomplished, full-time artist living with his family in New Jersey. His house portraits and fine art can be seen at www.peterdallison.com.
